Took a hike

Today we took a hike.

Not just any hike. We did a 2.5 hour hike to a gorgeous massive waterfall, then a 2.5 hour hike back to civilization.

It was pretty amazing. We crossed the river maybe a dozen times each way, stepping over massive concrete blocks, wobbly stones, rickety ladders, and sometimes just well placed logs or thick branches.

At one point we scaled a log with a loose rope as our safety line and I almost fell in 3 or 4 times. I honestly don't know how I didn't I just twisted and turned and weebled and wobbled until I regained my balance. After my little acrobatic display, I decided it would be best to hold the line taut while the others crossed. Here's a shot of it:

The guy in the picture, Dan. He's the boyfriend of Danielle, who's the sister of Nicole. Those were the lovely people we met in Fes who we found out we were travelling to Chefchaouen with. Well Dan was such a gentleman, making an effort at every river crossing to help all us ladies across safely. He even caught me by my back pack when I almost fell in a second time because I got too confident crossing a log. Thanks Dan!

When we got to the waterfall, the massive, beautiful, stunning waterfall; Dan and I went in for a swim. The water was freezing! And Danielle got pictures of us doing it. I don't have them yet, but I'll get them eventually. I felt cleansed though. Baptized Moroccan, in the Cascades D'akchour.

There was a makeshift restaurant just beside it. I can't imagine what a pain it must be to get products there, but I'd work there for sure! A hike every day, beautiful terrain, unbelievable mountain faces, and a watery giant as both backdrop and soundtrack. Yep, I'm in.

The hike back was easier, mostly downhill, though both ways were very up and down. There was a steady flow of people, but not too many that we felt crowded.

What I noticed an abundance of, however, were the cats. There are cats EVERYwhere here. Even by the water, which is weird.

Ok, what else can I tell you?

The 5 of us sat down to eat, had a feast really. Ate till we were stuffed then washed it down with some Moroccan Mint Tea, and the entire bill came down to 160DH, which is basically $16. Yep. $16 fed 5 people to the point of bursting. How great is that.

We saw a beautiful big rainbow on the drive back. That was really nice.

We got back to clean laundry, also pretty great.

I think I'll end it here, cuz now I'm just pulling at strings.

Tomorrow we should be going to a traditional Moroccan spa called a Hammam. I'm pretty stoked for that. Also kind of scared to be honest. I've only heard about the process, and it's terrifying as much as it's intriguing. But I'll update you once I actually know what happens.

All my love,

G
