Barcelona is ok
I might come off as a bit ungrateful when I say this, but Barcelona is okay… at best.
It's a huge city. Lots of big name brand stores. Yes, beautiful architecture, but otherwise pretty standard. Maybe I just haven't seen what makes it so great. I've got another day to figure it out.
I went to see a fountain show tonight. Walked 35 minutes to get there, to watch coloured water move to music. Which is lovely, but becomes old quick.
If it was really hot out, I could see it being fun standing in the splash zone. Otherwise it's just a bunch of water and lights.
I went into a beautiful marketplace today. The famous Boqueria Market of Barcelona. It was incredible. Not quite the same artisanal feel of Mercado de San Miguel in Madrid, but still very epic and enticing.
Tons of fruit stands, cured meat stands, fish stands, dried fruits and nuts stands, fresh juice stands. Surprisingly, only one olive stand. At least that I saw.
I'm here for another day. I have to make it to Sagrada Familia. It's the place people keep telling me about. So I'm going. I'm also going to a place called Park Guell which looks like it's straight out of a Dr. Seuss book.
I'd like to make it to the beach, but if it's not beach weather it's hard to justify. Maybe just to put my feet in. Like I did everywhere else I could put my feet in the water.
It's amazing what public transport can do. After tomorrow, if I go to the beach, I will have put my feet in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, the Bay of Biscay, and the Balearic Sea all in a matter of a few weeks.
And I've got tiny stones from each. Well actually, those are from Sagres, Apulia, and San Sebastian. But still.
I'm feeling run down. I'm sick and sniffly. Coughing and slow. I haven't had a cigarette in over a week and I'm thinking it's my body clearing out the toxins I've carelessly put in.
I've been drinking less too. Just trying to eat right and stay hydrated really. Good for me, right?
Ok that's it for tonight.
All my love,
G
