Happy St. Patrick's Day from Portugal

Pretty sure I got the remaining percentage in today of the Portuguese experience.

I ate Pastel de Nata while looking out at the canal. Then trekked up to the highest view points of the city.

I say trekked because you literally have to hike Lisbon. There are 7 hills the city is built on. I can't even imagine what it was like pre-civilization. Must have been beautiful. But literally everything is concrete, marble, or stucco. Don't get me wrong, they've done a great job, but I haven't seen even a patch of grass.

I did wander into a community garden though. Oh! And I climbed a tree. I also saw a ton of incredible street art, a lot of which I have featured in this post.

Today I played tourist with my new friend Suzanne. She is my first friend of my trip, and SO wonderful. She's charismatic and very funny. She's also the one who named me Munchie.

We decided we wanted to have Sardines, so we asked one of the Tuk-Tuk (Taxi) drivers, and he brought us to a small place that fed us 3 courses plus wine and coffee/tea for 12 euro. His name is Ivo, I have him on Facebook, if you plan on visiting Portugal and want the hook up, let me know ;).

It's days like these I wish I wore a step counter. Oh my goodness did I walk far today. Though I will say, Lisbon is quite small.

When we got back to the hostel, I rounded up my bags and made my way to the next place I'd be staying. It's unfortunately named GSpot hostel, which is kind of embarrassing, but it was half the price of the last place, great ratings and it's a party hostel. I thought I'd compromise on not going to Ireland for St. Patrick's Day by going to a place I'd know there would be a good party.

Everyone is really nice so far. I feel very welcome and comfortable. Tonight is 10 dishes for 10 euro, plus all you can drink Sangria. I'll take that deal any day.

They are doing a pub crawl, but I just want to stay in and keep my feet up after all the walking today. I should stretch too. I basically did walking lunges all day with 20 pounds on my back from 11 til 4.

I woke up at 7 thought. That's 2am Toronto time. To a woman's alarm that she wouldn't snooze for whatever reason. When she finally got out of bed, she got on a phone call with her boyfriend that lasted 15 minutes too long. I should have told her to leave the room, but instead I took it as an opportunity to get up early. Everyone else was getting up anyway.

I don't understand some people. You're in a room with 5 other people, it's not even 8AM, and you think it's perfectly acceptable to argue on the phone for the better part of half an hour. Ridiculous. I spoke to her about it over breakfast. She apologized for being inconsiderate.

Otherwise my day was really great. Spent quality time with my new friend Suzanne before going our separate ways.

Now I'm here mentally prepping to get my party on.

All riiiight.

Later alligators.
