10 Interesting Facts About the Human Body
In my studies towards becoming an RMT, I learned a lot of interesting things about the body. Here are some I'd like to share:
1. There are over 100 bones in the hands and feet alone. Carpals in hands, tarsals in feet. And both have phalanges.
2. The muscles that flex and extend your fingers are found in the forearm and attach at the elbow.
3. Hiccups are a spasm of the diaphragm.
4. Muscles in the back of your skull, called your sub-occipitals, can get tight from straining your eyes.
5. A mechanism called "Homeostasis" is the body's ongoing goal to get "back to normal" or "ideal health".
6. The fibula, a thin bone in your lower leg, supports up to 1/6th of all your body weight.
7. Your heart and your tongue are both muscular organs. They are also some of the strongest muscles in the body.
8. The hyoid bone has no joint, it is suspended completely my muscles in your throat. It helps with tongue movement and swallowing.
9. Your sinuses are a system of hollow cavities that lighten the skull and occasionally fill with mucous. They help filter air and allow for voice resonance.
10. The shape of your nose is largely determined by the environment your ancestors lived in. Colder weather, narrow noses. Warmer weather, wider noses.
Interesting right?
That's it for tonight.
