Illusions in Space

This week felt like Mercury retrograde.

It felt like it, but wasn't.

Regardless, I'm going to explain what this means.

Planets typically move towards the East in the night sky over time. When a planet goes "retrograde", it enters a part of its orbit that creates an optical illusion making the planet appear to be moving Westwards, or "backwards".

This can be understood with a simple example we see in traffic:

You're in a car. You and all the other cars around you are driving in the same direction. As you approach and pass a slower car, there is the illusion that the car is moving backwards. This is what we'd see play out in the cosmos, if we were actually looking.

In astrology, it is believed that different planets have different energies, characteristics or themes.

For instance, Mercury is associated with ideas, the mind, and mental energy.

Though it is millions of miles away, when in retrograde, Mercury has a habit of influencing communication and technology. Mercury retrograde is characterized by disruptions with both, so it is advised to avoid important or heated conversations, especially through technology.

It is also known to mess with travel. So be sure to double check flight times, and expect delays.

Mercury goes retrograde 3-4 times a year, lasting roughly 3 weeks a time.

For 2018, Mercury retrograde dates are as follows:

March 22 - April 15

July 26 - August 18

November 16 - December 6

So be aware!

I've only described Mercury retrograde, because it is the most commonly discussed one. If I'd gone through all of them, this post would be overwhelming with information.

I will tell you, all the orbiting planets enter phases of appearing indirect, and are believed to influence us less positively, or more inwardly, when they do. Feel free to google the other ones, and their retrograde meanings.

Only two planetary bodies do not retrograde. Maybe obvious or not, but they are: the Sun and the Moon.

When more than one planet goes retrograde, there is a higher likelihood of things going wrong. I remember once my friends and I were all lamenting over how difficult and chaotic life was at that particular point in time. I wondered what the planetary influence was, and sure enough, not one, but FIVE planets were in retrograde at the time. It couldn't just be coincidence.

When planets are all direct, it's supposed to be a great time energetically and astrologically. It holds potential and is a time to make decisions and goals to move forward.

We are currently in one such phase. As of January 2nd, 2018 we entered a 65 day period of all planets going direct.

So why was this week so shitty? I don't know, but it wasn't because of Mercury.

Maybe this astrology stuff has validity. Maybe it's just a load of hooey. But it sure is interesting.

Hope you learned something. I sure did.

All my love,

G
