A bit delayed...


World Cancer Day, eh?

There's a hard topic. The big C. Frankly, it's terrifying.

I've lost a lot of family to this dreaded disease. I've watched them suffer and fade helplessly. I've wondered if I'll share that same fate. Chances are, I will. And I'm not saying that to be morbid, it's just a fact.

The truth is, a lot of what we consume is carcinogenic.

Alcohol, for instance, is responsible for 3.6% of all cancer cases, and 3.5% of all cancer deaths world wide.

Processed meats are also carcinogenic. From bacon to beef jerky, hot dogs to salami. It's ALL cancer causing. And barbecuing only makes it worse.

Actually, every kind of red meat can cause the big C: beef, goat, veal, lamb, pork, horse… it's all bad.

The NUMBER ONE cancer causer, no surprise: cigarettes. Whether you smoke a pack a day, or one every now and then, you're increasing your cancer risk exponentially.

Obviously I'm not enjoying writing this, but I think it needs to be said. It needs to be synthesized in one place, so that it's not being denied.

I know: We're here for a good time. And, it's not a long time. So obviously enjoy your life how you want to. Plus, old age seems kind of over-rated anyway. If anything, it looks like a drag.

But I wrote this so you're aware. Maybe you were already aware, but now you're extra aware of what leads to this awful disease. So that if one day it comes knocking at your door, you'll know exactly why and how it got there.

Not all hope is lost, though. I'm decidedly ending this entry with cancer-preventative info to give you some light in the darkness.

Here it goes:

Eat/drink alkaline: Acidity in the body leads to disease. The more alkaline you eat, the more balanced your system will be, and ideally, the less likely you'll develop awful illnesses like cancer.

Vitamin C: More specifically, lemons are a great combatant of malignant (cancerous) cells. Believe it or not, they are better at it than chemotherapy! This is because they do not damage healthy cells, whereas chemo DOES. The zest (or skin) is especially effective at detoxifying the body.

Personal side note: I used to eat lemon skins all the time. They aren't bitter like that of their citric sisters'. I know it sounds weird, but give it a try sometime. Just make sure you wash it.

Cannabis Oil (CBD): A natural extract of the marijuana plant, CBD is a controversial remedy slowly but surely staking it's place in cancer treatment. It has been proven to prevent cancer cell growth, moderate inflammation, and alleviate cancer symptoms like nausea and pain.

Chaga: My personal fave. Chaga is THE ultimate plant medicine. It is anti-viral, anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and cancer preventing + fighting. The list doesn't end there. I could go on, instead, I dare you to google: "health benefits of chaga" and tell me you're NOT impressed by this plant. Which, by the way, happens to be native to the entire northern hemisphere and grows on birch trees. It ain't cheap, but it's worth EVERY penny.

These are only 4 methods of cancer prevention, but they are very powerful and 100% worth exploring in the name of health.

So, heavy topic, I know, but hopefully enlightening as well.
